Reworked a piece of my OC Laila [link] , (Lai Lai is what her friends affectionately call her)

I wanted to make a true vector version, hope ya likes. Actually, while making this piece their was a power outage... before I saved my work... I had to re-do this ENTIRE thing over. Arg. So this prolly is not as good as that one, but it's gone forever... sigh....

Made in PhotoShop using shapes and gradients. No raters elements, no blur, no brush tool what-so-ever.

Did you read any tuts on how to do this type of drawings? Or just tell me what should I look up on google. I am familiar with gradient, but not shapes as much.

I created the hair in this backwards, that is, typically to create hairstyles (digitally) is to create the basic shape of the hairstyles & then add the details. With this I started actuallym with her more ornate locks of hair, and then designed around it.

In this case I was able to make it work (I think,) but it was much more difficult, and it was clear to me why it is not the preferred method! he he.

(not that you asked, I just felt like sharing tee hee)

Thank you :) Yes I love gradients. I use many of the color palettes I make on ColourLovers.com to make them, it really helps me make super colors. And custom shapes is my PhotoShop trick to making good vectors. Keeping in mind though, that i have already made the custom shapes myself, and saved them for editing & using later. :)
