Thanks so much that means a lot to me. Even though I think I am a type geek of sorts, that does not translate into an ability at making typographic illustrations myself. It is something I totally admire & hope to / need to get better at!
& I agree, the concept is cool but could be done much better, I think more details to the sky as you mentioned would definitely add needed atmosphere, and less horizontal wafting on the trails might look better as well.
Thanks, the idea came to me and so I had to do it.
This was super easy actually. The main thing, I created the word as vector shapes first. Each line of the letter was a vector, just long thin vector lines which were comprised of a gradient 50% white 50% transparent gradient.
Then I rasterized the vectors and manually applied some of the cloudy/smokey look to each one as well as applied a "smoke" effect to each one with the EyeCandy PhotoShop plug-in.
